THE COMPETITION:

In connection with the World Championship in skiing, Nordic section, 2011, the Holmenkollen national ski jump arena shall be extended. Holmenkollbakken's significance as a national arena, tourist attraction and as a silhouette in views from large areas of Oslo, calls for emphasis being given to function, design and architecture. The new Holmenkollbakken should accommodate the requirements of the World Championships 2011 and World Cup tournaments for many years to come, and should also be a place for training and local and national competitions. It should be adapted for summer ski jumping. Furthermore the slope should be an arena for concerts and outdoor events, primarily in the summer half of the year. The ski jump should have high architectural and design standards, which reflect the city's focus on architecture, design and experience. The ski jump's architectural design should be appreciated from a distance, from the city and the fjord. Those who visit the site as spectators or competitors will also experience it at close quarters. The new ski jump should stand out as a modern icon that continues the tradition of the existing ski jump in a way that makes the inhabitants of Oslo feel that it is their ski jump. The New Holmenkollbakken should contribute to strengthen Oslo's status as the capital of winter sports. The ski jump should be completed for the trial World Championship in 2010, which means that construction work should be completed during the course of 2009. Realistic economical and technical solutions and building program will be emphasized in the evaluation of the entries in the architectural competition.

REGISTRATION: Registration should be placed by email to the competition secretary. Name, address, telephone number and email address must be clearly included. Mark the order HOLMENKOLLBAKKEN.
