THE COMPETITION:
The international architectural design competition for the new Paris Courthouse (TGI) on the Tolbiac site in the Paris Left Bank development zone (ZAC Paris Rive Gauche) was launched by the Etablissement Public du Palais de Justice de Paris (EPPJP) on March 28, 2007.
This competition includes a preliminary selection of designers. An international jury will select the candidates. In view of the challenges raised by this exceptional project for French Justice and Paris, the EPPJP chose to give this competition a wide scope matching its high ambition. Therefore, 10 to 12 architect/engineer teams will be selected by the jury taking into consideration the suitability of their skills, references and means to the requirements of the new TGI project.
Entries will be submitted at the end of 2007 and the winner(s) will be selected at the beginning of 2008. Construction work is scheduled to start in 2010 and the new building should come into service in 2013.
The urban development orientation for this project will be based on the numerous conclusions drawn from the international ideas competition and will try to ensure the most careful consideration of the urban planning issues of the area.
