`Urban Renewal For Rifle Range, Penang,’ an international design ideas competition, is jointly organized by the Penang State Government, Penang Municipal Council, Malaysian Institute of Architects (Northern Chapter) and Malaysian Institute of Planners (Northern Branch).
The main objective of the competition is to find creative ideas and practical solutions in redeveloping an existing housing area in Rifle Range, Penang into a vibrant, sustainable and well-planned residential and commercial area. The State government hopes that through this exercise, the quality of life of Rifle Range community will be significantly improved.
Among others, the proposals should take the following factors into consideration:

A development proposal that addresses the infrastructural and social issues faced by the community (such as lack of recreation space, car parking areas and proper commercial units).
An interesting concept for landscape (both soft and hardscape) that complements the overall redevelopment approach.
